Wildlife Abounds

Oh my gosh...is anyone else having issues with wildlife? I don't think there will be anything left to our garden, come spring. Rabbits and who knows what else are having a field day. The shrubs in the perimeter of our perennial garden must be the equivalent of "Fancy Feast" to those pesky rabbits. They are so bold that we stare at each other, then usually they slowly hop away. Based on their foot prints (animal tracks)there must be an army of 'em.

The up side? we get to try different repellents. So far nothing organic has worked, well, except for our dog. He only deters the rabbits while he's outside in the garden. Being so cold out, he's not outside for long. What's your favorite remedy to discourage those varmints?

I have a live trap to catch rabbits and a fat beagle that will chase them into a relocated home.

Thanks for thinking of us. I know squirrels are territorial and if 1 is relocated, other squirrels will attack it. I'll check with our extension agent about relocating rabbits.

A large rose bush is down to a few short branches and a 4 foot high juniper is almost a skelton.

Thanks Dave A., for checking with the DNR. You said that rabbits cannot be legally trapped, so your beagle may have to come on over! Thanks for checking this out. Jo Ann

Jenny was one of the Wayne County Master Gardener instructors and also owns Jenny B's Garden Party wrote: Yes, it is the same for rabbits, they can miraculously find their way back home from as far as 5 miles away! Have you tried a product called "Natural Solutions" it has a saltwater/cinnamon base and we found it actually worked better than Liquid Fence on our back property of the business where we were growing vegetables.

Thanks, Jenny! As I write this two bunnies are taking down a fothergilla...I can't wait to try the Natural Solutions.
